Tuesday, January 29 - Review Reading Comprehension. Students wrote a reading comprehension test on January 25 that we prepared for all week by completing sample questions and inference work. I read this test to the class and asked that they follow along for cues as to how best complete this type of exam. The test we wrote is attached above. The questions are from a previous PAT so it gives good examples of what they can expect in June.

We are continuing our new unit on Grammar and Figures of Speech this week. Notes are attached above.
Students will complete a grammar comic and write a quick quiz on grammar on Friday after their spelling test.
We will continue grammar work throughout the school year as conventions are an important part of our language arts journey.

Since it's a short week we will not be having spelling this week. We will complete a vocabulary activity and practice using our 4 new words: Rickety, Cauldron, Petrify, and Ominous.
We are starting our new unit on Grammar and Figures of Speech this week.
Starting Monday we will analyze a new sentence each week and work on identifying it's parts of speech.

Students will be completing their I AM Poem assignment using PowerPoint.

October 1-5
This week in addition to our spelling this week, we will be completing a vocabulary activity. Be sure to ask your child about the new words they learned this week!
We will also be starting our "I Am Poems" this week. Students will complete a PowerPoint presentation that they will present to the class when completed. Students that are uncomfortable in front of the class will have to make arrangements with me to present at a lunch hour.

September 24-28
"The Important Poem" is due by the end of the day on MONDAY, September 24. Students that do not have the assignment handed in will spend lunch hours with me completing it. The outline and rubric are attached above.
Students will begin their third spelling booklet this week and will have their spelling test on Friday.
We will be starting our "I Am" presentations this week. Students will make a PowerPoint presentation to share their personal identity with the class. More information will come when the project is assigned.
